Phase 1: Core Testing Goals
Timeline: Phase 1 runs from now until March 10th, 2025. This phase is focused on device setup, connectivity, and initial usability validation. We want to ensure everything works as expected out of the box, and testers can get started without major roadblocks.
What We Want to Validate in Phase 1
At a high level, here’s what we’re aiming to achieve:
- Ensure setup and onboarding are smooth and straightforward.
- Validate connectivity across Wi-Fi, LTE, and GPS.
- Identify usability issues and initial feedback.
- Check for compatibility with accessories and external hardware.
- Assess the software experience and overall stability.
Step-by-Step Checklist ✅
Use this checklist as a structured guide to completing Phase 1 testing. Each step helps us validate a different aspect of Tachyon’s functionality.
1️⃣ Unboxing & Assembly
- Unbox the Tachyon unit and ensure all expected components are included.
- Assemble any required parts, such as antennas or heat sinks.
- Confirm the board powers on successfully.
2️⃣ Device Setup & Particle Integration
- Follow the documentation to set up Tachyon using Particle tools.
- Add the device to the Particle console.
- Connect the device to your local Wi-Fi.
3️⃣ Connectivity & Console Validation
- Check that the device appears in the Particle console.
- Validate that the local shell is accessible and works correctly.
- Ensure the device maintains a stable connection.
4️⃣ Network Connectivity Testing
- Test Wi-Fi connectivity and confirm a stable connection.
- Validate cellular (LTE) performance.
- (Optional) If you have a USB-C Ethernet adapter, test Ethernet functionality.
5️⃣ Peripheral and Enclosure Testing
- Connect the USB-C HUB. Even on the headless design, a HDMI UI will pop up (using Weston)
- Try out Tachyon in a RPi case (or other project box)
- Connect up the GPS Antenna and check the reception out!
Engagement & Next Steps
- Post feedback in our Slack channel – we’ll respond and iterate quickly.
- This phase ends on March 10th, 2025.
- Phase 2 will introduce more advanced testing goals, including edge AI performance and extended software evaluation.
📢 Reminder: Your feedback is shaping the future of Tachyon! 🚀 Thank you for being part of this journey.
